EVANGELISM and MISSIONS "First Baptist Church, Wylie exists to make an iMPACT on our community, our country, and our world through the transforming power of Jesus Christ." At First Baptist Church, Wylie we believe every follower of Christ has been directed to GO! With this in mind, it is the desire of the mission’s team to provide various opportunities for members of all ages to get their hands dirty for Christ. Whether you travel to Ecuador to wash the feet of children, drive the Polar Express through neighborhoods passing out free ice cream, or paint the house of a widow in need, we have a place for YOU! In Acts 1:8, Jesus shares, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Our vision for missions and evangelism is three-fold. We are involved in Community, Home Land, and World Missions. In order to fulfill the vision that God has placed before us, we need people that are willing to use their God given gifts and abilities to reach the lost with the love of Christ. Are you ready to GO?
ABOUT THE GENERAL MISSIONS OFFERING... We have been given an incredible mandate to take the Gospel of Christ to every man, woman, and child. This task is impossible on our own, but as a unified body of Christ we can do some amazing things. Our General Mission Offering is distributed locally, within our association, state, nation and around our world. I pray you will be in prayer about what you and your family can do to help us, and our missionaries, take the Gospel of Christ to our community, our county, our state, our nation and our globe. Chad Womack The Lottie Moon International Mission Board offering is a global offering that uses 100 percent of all funds raised to support global missionaries and their ministries. This allows our church to join in a strategic global effort to reach the entire world with the gospel of Christ. This offering also enables our missionaries to spend their time reaching lost souls instead of raising their own support. The Annie Armstrong Mission Offering is a national offering. 100 percent of this gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. The missionaries and their supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His salvation. Time and again our missionaries relate how this offering is their lifeblood. They know that behind each penny given, there is a Southern Baptist who believes in what they do and are affirming the need to equip them to share the gospel with those who need a Savior right here within our country. As a leader, Mary Hill Davis used her influence to lead Texas Baptists to minister to the great number of immigrants coming to our state in the early 1900s. She dedicated her energy and time to womens and childrens issues, education and the care of aging ministers and their wives. Her life and work still challenges us to be willing to give to the cause of sharing the Gospel among the vast mission field of Texas. On the day he was born, doctors told his mother he would not survive his first year due to a serious heart defect. He did, and was pastor of his first church at age 19. Congregations he served as pastor include here at First Church in Wylie and First Church in Lewisville. In 1979, he became director of missions for Collin Association, a position he held until his retirement in 1993. In 2003, Collin Association honored him by establishing the Gilbert Callaway Love Offering to benefit new and existing Baptist ministries. | |

| HOMELAND MISSIONS
There are areas all over the United States that are in need of help. Whether it is construction work, hosting a Vacation Bible School, or servant evangelism, our desire is to reach people with the love of Christ.
•Mission New York July 12-19
On the surface, New York City is more prosperous than ever. Midtown Manhattan glistens with new development and tourism abounds. Streets once plagued with urban blight now bustle with commerce. Yet in the midst of unparalleled prosperity, the polarization of the city into rich and poor continues to intensify. Consider these statistics: one third of the 1.2 million children in NYC continue to live in poverty; of the 7.5 million people in NYC, 2 million live below poverty level. This summer we will return to the streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Harlem, and surrounding areas to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We will conduct block parties, participate in street evangelism, conduct prayer stations, and hold Backyard Bible Clubs, Sports Camps, feed the homeless, and do minor construction projects.
Cost: $995
Team Size: 40 - 20 guys and 20 gals
Age: High School Students and Adults

Last summer, AWOL served the Lord in South Dallas. Our 2008 date for AWOL is July 27-30.

•Cross Roads Community Church
Austin, Texas Partnership
Over the course of the year, we will be partnering with a church in Austin, Texas. Our missions will include block parties, prayer walking, community projects, neighborhood Bible clubs, and opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
First Weekend Project May 23 - 25, 2008
•Blue Roof Team
We need individuals that at the drop of a hat will be willing to go to an area that has been hit by a catastrophic event and immediately begin to offer aid. We have developed our own disaster relief team, the Blue Roof Team, through the Texas Baptist Men. We are the only team in the state of Texas designated by the Baptist Men to furnish and install tarps in the event of roof damages, so you can imagine the amount of opportunities we will be given.
•Cornerstone Baptist Church
Dallas, Texas
This fall and winter, we are partnering with Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. This partnership will enable us to provide much needed supplies this coming fall to help them as they minister in downtown Dallas. We will help them by providing supplies for their fall festival. They need trinkets, candy, and tracts to help make this fall festival an event that will have an eternal impact on lives. We also have the opportunity to help by providing blankets and coats this coming Thanksgiving. Not only that, but we also can assist them by providing food and servers for their annual community meal.
Cornerstone has a vision of reaching the lost within their community and feeding and clothing the homeless. At Christmas time this year, they will be providing a meal on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning for the homeless in Dallas. We want to be where God is moving and He is clearly moving within this church. I hope and pray you will join Him this fall and winter in this work.
•Cornerstone Prison Ministry
Cornerstone Prison Ministry will provide you with an opportunity to partner with a mission organization that has a passion to see the lost within the prison system come to know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. This organization makes frequent trips to Mexico, surrounding states, and the state of Texas’ prisons. They also meet monthly at the church to assemble Blessing Bags that are distributed to all new inmates at many of our state prisons. Each year they distribute thousands of bags to prisoners. Each bag consists of toothpaste, deodorant, soap, and a gospel tract. You may not be able to journey to the prison, but you can help fill a bag...or decorate them.
•Real Options For Women
Real Options for Women is a ministry First Baptist, Wylie supports. They provide women that may be contemplating abortion biblical counsel to assist them in making a God honoring decision. The Nicklas Sunday School class has adopted this ministry as a class mission project. If you would also like to partner with this ministry, please speak with Pete or Sue.
•Angel Food Ministry
Angel Food is a ministry established to assist those on a fixed income with top quality food. The leadership within Angel Food says this, “Angel Food partners with churches and community organizations throughout the country to help distribute food to those in need. For $25.00 you can receive a box of food containing both fresh and frozen items. Our food items are first quality. No seconds or out-of–date items.” Liz Garrett is our community representative for this ministry. If you would like more information about how you can take advantage of this ministry by being a participant or a partner, please see her at the ministry center.
•Exodus Ministries
Exodus is both a challenging and gratifying ministry that seeks to encourage ex-offenders, to reunite them with their families, and to empower them to become self-sustaining, productive, Christ-centered members of society. Individuals are needed to help in the Exodus offices to serve as Bible Study leaders, computer instructors, and tutors/mentors. Professional experts, such as doctors, dentists and lawyers, are welcome at Exodus to help with both guidance and more immediate needs.

| GLOBAL MISSIONS

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Go beyond the comforts of daily living and experience all that God intends for you. Join us on a trip around the world!
•Mission Russia August 1-9
It is believed that in Russia ninety percent of the people have no meaningful link with a church. This is astounding considering there is a Russian Orthodox Church on every corner. In a society where the ills of poverty, alcoholism, homelessness, drug abuse, and AIDS effect many including children who are at risk of violence, abuse and abandonment, our prayer is that next summer, August 1st through 9th, you will partner with us in bringing the hope and love of Christ and that He will make a difference in the lives of many. This trip will include construction projects, a protestant church partnership, and the opportunity to share the Gospel with both adults and children within the heart of Russia.
Cost: $1995
Team Size: 20
Age: Adults
•Mission Israel October 31-November 8
What an incredible opportunity that is before us not only to tour the Holy Land but also to fulfill the Great Commission in the very land where the Great Commission was first shared. Before ascending to be with the Father, Jesus left the apostles with these famous words, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." We have the opportunity to go to Jerusalem and present the gospel of Christ through prayer walking, construction projects, and ministry amongst a people group in need of Jesus Christ. Join us as we go to the ends of the earth to minister to the people of God in Jerusalem.
Cost: 2295
